The name Sincere Numbers is a direct reflection of the importance Stephany attaches to integrity and transparency in her business. She recognizes that entrusting someone with your bookkeeping can be stressful and, for that reason, focuses on building a trusting relationship with each and every client.
Secondly, Stephany has two degrees that together, provide a trained eye for business finance and potential issues. One degree is in business administration with a concentration in accounting with a second degree in forensic accounting. Why is that important? Because it means that she can help clients through the entire bookkeeping cycle, including identifying irregularities and helping companies whose books are in need of cleanup.
Stephany began her career as a consultant with Robert Half where she had the opportunity to work with a variety of companies and learn the nuances of working with different business types and industries. In her time there she recognized that being assigned a new temporary bookkeeper each time they needed help was not the most effective strategy for most small business owners. These businesses would be far better served working directly and regularly with a relationship-based professional, like Stephany, who takes the time to understand their business and their goals. Additionally, eliminating the intermediary allowed her to offer a superior resource at a better price.
Helping small business owners to succeed became her passion. Since 2017, she’s been fueling that passion by offering her bookkeeping expertise along with her insights as a trusted advisor to small and medium-sized businesses.
Alex’s bookkeeper had left him high and dry. Stephany and Alex met at a networking event and he asked her to review his books and provide some on-site QuickBooks training so that he could handle his bookkeeping on his own. After his first experience, he was understandably hesitant to entrust such an important business function to someone else.
The first order of business was a forensic review of his books to ensure everything was correctly entered and categorized. During the review, Stephany realized that his prior bookkeeper had been entering transactions manually AND downloading the same transactions through the bank feed. Every transaction had been double counted! Alex was shocked. Without this review, Alex would have overstated his income by 100% and as a result, would have paid twice the taxes!
Once the error was corrected and his books were in good order, Alex and Stephany had a detailed discussion about his business goals. She reviewed the fundamentals of QuickBooks so that he could feel comfortable entering his own transactions. More importantly, they covered how to generate and use reports to track the financial position of his business at a given point in time or to forecast for future planning.
By the time they were through with the corrections and training, Alex and Stephany had developed a very comfortable rapport. He decided that his time would be better spent handling other aspect of his business and outsourced his bookkeeping to Sincere Numbers.
Erik went to his accountant to file his tax return but, before his accountant could use the data, his books needed to be cleaned up. To complicate matters, Erik’s partner was expressing frustration because he felt he wasn’t getting his fair share of the profits and without having accurate financial reports, it was difficult for Erik to explain the cash flows to him. Erik’s accountant referred him to Sincere Numbers for help. After sitting down with Erik and hearing his story, we set two goals. The first was to clean up the books and ensure that everything was properly classified and entered, so his business tax return could be filed on time. The second was to review the entire set of financials together so that Erik had a clear understanding of the business’ financial status and he could explain cash flow and profit to his partner. Once Stephany completed the review and made the necessary adjustments, she and Erik set some time aside to discuss the changes made as well as the reasons.
Erik filed his return on time that year. Ultimately, he and his partner went their separate ways, however, Erik and Stephany had developed an excellent working relationship during the time they worked together. When Erik embarked on a new venture, he asked Sincere Numbers to set up his new company file and stay on as his bookkeeper so he could focus on growing the business that he loved.
Upon completing her degrees she began her career as a consultant with Robert Half to work with a variety of companies learning the ins and outs of accounting in the real world. In working for a variety of companies she realized the importance of a small business. She also realized the many hats a small business owner must wear and how tight money is to run the business. Often times the bookkeeping gets put off as owners don’t see the importance of it. It became her passion to figure out how she could help these struggling owners succeed. In April of 2017 she launched her Sincere Numbers business to help small business grow without having to worry about the high costs of hiring a consultant and still maintaining the quality of work needed.
